Mother’s Day In The North Georgia Mountains!

$

mothersdayblogMother’s Day is a well-deserved holiday honoring mothers – young and old. It’s celebrated differently around the world but the American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908 but didn’t become an official holiday in the U.S. until 1914. Unfortunately, after the commercialization of the event, Jarvis, later tried to remove it from the calendar. While dates and celebrations vary, Mother’s Day most commonly falls on the second Sunday in May and traditionally involves presenting mothers with flowers, cards, gifts and time together.  This Mother’s Day, we invite you to spend Mother’s Day in the North Georgia Mountains.  She will be surrounded by beautiful scenic wonders of mountains, rivers and lakes and lots of shopping as well as incredible food.  What more could she ask for?  She would love to spend the weekend in a mountain view cabin in one of the communities and relax and unwind.  Check out some of the below things to do here in North Georgia Mountains!  Just 2 hours North of Atlanta!

It’s no secret that we think the best place to live, work & play are the Georgia Mountains.  We are quite fond of our mountains and we love to share with others what we think they will love!  One of our favorites that kicks-off the same time of year, just before school starts in late July…is none other than the Georgia Mountain Fair, held in Hiawassee at the Fairgrounds.   Our community refers to it as “the fair”.  This “fair” is so much more than just a “fair”.  With this being the 68th year they’ve been doing it, they really have gained a vast knowledge of how to make it fun, entertaining & educational all rolled up into one event. Our Georgia Mountain Fair
is held July 20-28, 2018 at the Historic Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds.  Thousands of visitors from across the region travel to experience the excitement and nostalgia that they offer. With first class musical performances, arts & crafts, fun carnival rides, unique attractions and a glimpse into North Georgia’s rich history and culture, the Fair provides something for every member of the family. So make plans to stay the entire weekend and really explore the fairgrounds & spend a day on our beautiful Lake Chatuge.

Pioneer Village

Pioneer Village is a replica of just how the ole mountain towns used to be. A mercantile store with products and goods that only your grandmother might recognize. An old, one room schoolhouse, a log home with furnishings just like it was in the 1800’s, a smoke house, barn and corn crib are just like it was then. It takes you back.

Make plans today and explore this beautiful city of Hiawassee, GA.

Recently, 365Atlanta.com wrote an article about our beloved town of Hiawassee, GA proclaiming what we’ve been saying for years. They even laid out 52 things to do there.  If you’re coming for a weekend visit, there is plenty to do for sure!

Want to stay on the pristine Lake Chatuge? You should choose The Ridges Resort and Marina, which is right on Chatuge Lake along US 76 in Hiawassee, Ga. Fieldstone Inn and they have hotel rooms as well as suites and villas. It’s a very comfy place and a lot of it has been renovated recently.  Their restaurant overlooking Chatuge Lake had a makeover and it’s simply amazing.  I always had the sense that it was someplace quite special.

Want to stay in a lodge like resort with gorgeous views?  Brasstown Valley Resort is the place you want to stay.  It’s lodge-like atmosphere coupled with refined luxury is great. It’s nestled high on a hill in the Georgia Mountains & is only a short hours from Atlanta & Chattanooga. The accommodations are exception and  include dining, championship golf, stables, a 7,500-square-foot spa, and a wide range of activities for the whole family.

Want to stay in near the fairgrounds? The Lake Chatuge Lodge is another great choice in Hiawassee, Ga. This mountain resort is within walking distance to the North Georgia Fair Grounds. Although we did not stay here, or visit, we did see the sign and have heard good things.

So this is just a little help to get you moving in the right direction & we encourage you to read the full article HERE so you can truly plan out your agenda and make the time with your family memoriable.

If you’re ready to make these glorious mountains your home…we’re ready to help!  We’re true advocates for mountain living and we love the Georgia Mountains.  Call us today to get started! Chad Lariscy | The Mountain Life Team | KW Realty Partners 706-633-8186 or info@themountainlifeteam.com.

Summertime is here in North Georgia and despite the rain…it’s been a beautiful!

With Fall only a couple of months away, we would like to suggest a really neat outing for you and your family.  If you love beautiful mountain views, you will love a visit to Brasstown Bald which is the highest point in Georgia – 4,784′.  This mountain adventure features incredible heights where you can see unbelievable mountain ranges. It’s a great time in the early Spring to take a nice hike up to the summit (the top) and see these scenic mountains without the Summer heat overpowering you.  Or if you don’t hike…no problem!  From the parking lot, you can take the shuttle up to the visitors center which has an extensive museum and various forestry presentations where you can learn a lot about this area.  The best part is the observatory deck with telescopes to get a close-up view of those gorgeous mountain vistas of Rabun Bald (Georgia’s second highest mountain, slightly north of due east), Blood Mountain (south of due west), and the Cohutta Mountains, (due west of the center).

The center is also home to a small locomotive that was used to haul wood off the mountains to nearby saw mills. One of the most interesting displays takes visitors inside the mountain itself to explore the geology of Georgia’s tallest peak.

The Brasstown Bald Summit Trail is also another option for walking up to the Visitor Center and Viewing Platform, is a 0.6 mile paved foot trail from the parking lot.  It is very steep. Again, the shuttle service is provided as an alternative to walking the trail. Dogs must be leashed and are not permitted in the Visitor Center.

Brasstown Bald is open daily from 10:00am – 5:00pm and Visitor Center and Day Use Area is $5/person (16+) (Includes entrance fee and shuttle fee). There’s even a reduced price for Interagency/Golden Senior or Access Pass Holders: $2.00 Shuttle Fee (Free Entrance). Please call 706-896-4137 if weather is questionable!  FOR DIRECTIONS AND MORE INFO CLICK HERE.
